The SBU detained a soldier who had left his unit without permission, and later returned to service on the orders of the Russian Federation to gather intelligence about his assault unit. According to the SBU in the Kharkiv region, he provided the geolocation of the battalion's temporary deployment point and was hiding in Kremenchuch. The detained individual is accused of treason, and faces a life sentence.
The Security Service of Ukraine detained a serviceman suspected of treason: according to the investigation, he voluntarily left his military unit, and later, at the behest of the Russian Federation, returned to service in order to collect intelligence about his own assault unit. This was reported by the spokesman for the Security Service of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region, Vladislav Abdula.
According to him, the man was mobilized in the Poltava region. Subsequently, he voluntarily deserted his unit and sought "easy" earnings on Telegram channels, where he was recruited by Russian special services. After being recruited, he received the task of returning from the СЗЧ (presumably a military unit) to his unit and gathering information to help adjust Russian shelling.
The SBU documented how the individual provided the geolocation of the temporary deployment point of the battalion he served in, and left a portion of it supposedly for a trip to the hospital. Instead of the hospital, he was hiding at his residence in Kremenchuch. SBU employees had previously secured the locations of the Defense Forces in the area of enemy reconnaissance activity and apprehended the individual.
During the search, his smartphone was seized, which he used to coordinate actions with a representative of Russian special services. Investigators informed the detainee about the suspicion of treason and placed him in pre-trial detention. He faces a life sentence.
