SBU uncovered a GRU Russia intelligence network in Kharkiv: four individuals were detained.
The SBU's counterintelligence service neutralized a Russian military intelligence (GRU) agent network in Kharkiv Oblast and arrested four participants. According to the investigation, they were coordinating strikes in the region and collecting data on military personnel, law enforcement officers, and judges, including through access to information from a mobile operator. All four face life imprisonment.
The counterintelligence service of the Security Service of Ukraine neutralized a Russian military intelligence (GRU) agent network in the Kharkiv region. The special operation was coordinated by the head of the SBU, General-Major Oleksandr Poklad. Four members of the group were detained, who were responsible for coordinating attacks in the region and monitoring Ukrainian military personnel, law enforcement officials, and judges.
Among the participants in the group were the head of the security department of a mobile phone company and his subordinate. Following instructions from the Russian intelligence services, they were collecting personal data of soldiers in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, employees of law enforcement agencies, and judges, using their access to the mobile operator's software, which allows them to obtain data on telephone connections and the locations of subscribers. Also, at the request of the Russian Federation, the individuals were hiding a convicted person who had been sentenced for justifying the armed aggression of the Russian Federation in a secret apartment in Kharkiv, and they were tasked with gathering information about the prosecutor and judges in this case.
The third participant in the network is an employee of a local defense enterprise. According to the instructions of the enemy, she rented out her apartment to Ukrainian soldiers and secretly obtained information from them about the locations and routes of military movements, as well as about the defense enterprise where she worked.
Another agent was a resident of Kharkiv, who, along with two employees of the mobile operator's security department, was traveling around the city and surrounding areas in their official vehicle. During these trips, he was filming defensive objects, including backup command posts, fortifications, and Ukrainian defenders' checkpoints, using a smartwatch.
According to the investigation, the individuals were recruited by a familiar person from Kharkiv, who had already left for Russia before the start of the full-scale war and worked for the Russian GRU as a "liaison." All those detained have been informed of the suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason, committed during a state of war). They are in custody, and face a life sentence with confiscation of property. The operations were carried out by employees of the SBU in the Kharkiv region, under the procedural supervision of the regional prosecutor's office.
