A ban on fishing in fish spawning areas in the Kharkiv region has been introduced, starting November 1. During this period, fish gather in the deepest parts of the water bodies and become less active, so fishing in areas with large concentrations of fish is restricted until the start of the spring-summer spawning season.
The Kharkiv fisheries patrol has stated that violations of the ban will result in administrative or criminal penalties, as well as compensation for damages to the fishing industry.
A list of spawning areas in the Kharkiv region can be found at the link. Fishing is only permitted outside these areas, in accordance with the rules, including a limit of no more than seven hooks per angler.
At the end of October, a man was found at the Pechenezh reservoir who had illegally caught 595 fish, weighing a total of 112 kilograms. The damage to the fishing industry is estimated to be over one million hryvnias.
