Dirofilariasis is a parasitic disease that humans can contract through a bite from an infected mosquito. Symptoms of the disease include swelling, itching, inflammation, redness, and pain. The parasite can localize, for example, in the area around the eyes.
To reduce the risk of infection, experts advise using repellents, installing mosquito nets on windows and doors, protecting pets from mosquitoes, and undergoing preventive measures for parasitic diseases as recommended by a veterinarian. If any unusual swelling, lumps, or itching appears, especially in the eye area, it is necessary to consult a doctor.
