In Kharkiv region, a captured occupier helped evacuate the body of a deceased Ukrainian soldier.
Troops from the "Volya" battalion of the 57th brigade carried out a unique operation to evacuate the body of a fallen comrade near Vovchansk. Assistance in this was provided by a Russian prisoner of war, who was persuaded to surrender using a loudspeaker.
During fighting near Vovchan, in the Kharkiv region, soldiers of the "Volya" battalion of the 57th brigade found themselves in a difficult situation: the body of a deceased Ukrainian serviceman was located on the front line, and evacuating him by normal means was too risky.
A Russian military member who was captured provided unique assistance in the evacuation. As reported by Mavic operator with call sign "Cat," this is the second time an occupier has surrendered at this position. "We noticed the enemy, who, realizing he had been spotted, hid behind a Christmas tree. I began to persuade him to surrender via loudspeaker, promising to save his life and provide medical assistance," said "Cat."
As it was not possible to transport the body of the deceased independently due to the lack of special equipment, Deputy Battalion Commander of the "Volya" battalion, Oleg Kryzhansky, suggested using a prisoner. According to him, the prisoner was given evacuation stretchers using the "Vampir" drone, and the location of the body was indicated so that he could retrieve it.
The prisoner, following the operator's instructions, transported the deceased on makeshift wooden platforms. The operation lasted almost a day. The prisoner traveled part of the way on his own, after which he was taken by Ukrainian soldiers. Commander of the 3rd Motorized Infantry Battalion "Volya," Oleg Syroshtan, emphasized that it was important to evacuate the body so that it could be buried with honors.
