A case of rabies has been confirmed in a cat in the village of Sorokivka, in the Vilkhiv community of the Kharkiv region. This occurred on October 6. The owner of the deceased animal, who had previously bitten her owner, informed the Kharkiv branch of veterinary medicine. A pathological sample was analyzed in a laboratory, where the presence of the rabies virus antigen was confirmed. A quarantine has been imposed in the village.

Rabies is a dangerous infectious disease for both animals and humans. According to veterinarians, the most effective protection is vaccination: pets should be vaccinated annually, starting at 3 months of age. The rabies vaccine is free.

Owners are advised to contact the nearest state veterinary medical hospital in the Kharkiv region to get vaccinated. Ignoring vaccination poses a threat to the health of animals and family members.
